When You Can't See the Way, Trust the One Who Can

You Don't Have to Know the Whole Journey to Trust God

📖 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)

Introduction

There are seasons in life when we simply don't know what to do next.

You may be praying about your future, your family, your finances, your health, your relationships, or your purpose, yet you cannot see how everything will work out.

You may ask, “Lord, where are You taking me?” or “What am I supposed to do now?”

The truth is, we don't always need to know the whole plan.

We simply need to trust the One who does.

God sees what we cannot see. He knows what is ahead, while we can only see today. What looks confusing to us is never confusing to Him.

When You Cannot See the Way

Imagine travelling along a road at night. Your headlights don't illuminate the entire journey. They only show you enough of the road to keep moving forward.

Faith is often like that.

God may not show you everything at once. He may simply give you enough light for the next step.

Sometimes we want God to reveal the entire plan before we obey. But faith says, “Lord, I don't know everything You are doing, but I trust You enough to take the next step.”

Abraham Had to Trust God

Abraham was called by God to leave his country and his father's house and go to a place God would show him.

He didn't receive a detailed map.

He simply obeyed.

Hebrews 11:8 (KJV) says:

“By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.”

Think about that: He went without knowing exactly where he was going.

That is faith.

Perhaps God is asking you to step into something new, but you're afraid because you cannot see everything ahead.

Remember Abraham.

You don't need the whole map when you have the One who knows the destination.

Moses Faced an Impossible Situation

Moses and the children of Israel found themselves standing before the Red Sea with Pharaoh's army approaching behind them.

There appeared to be no way forward.

But God already had a way.

Exodus 14:14 (KJV) says:

“The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”

What looked like a dead end was actually the entrance to a miracle.

Sometimes what you call a dead end, God calls a divine opportunity.

You may not see a way today, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

God can make a way where there seems to be no way.

Peter Had to Step Out of the Boat

When Peter saw Jesus walking on the water, Jesus called him to come.

Peter stepped out of the boat and walked towards Jesus.

As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he was doing what seemed impossible.

But when he became distracted by the wind and the waves, fear took over.

How often do we do the same?

God tells us to move forward, but then we look at our circumstances and begin to doubt.

The problem isn't always that the storm is too big.

Sometimes we're simply looking at the storm instead of looking at Jesus.

Stop Trying to Figure Everything Out

One of the hardest things for us to do is surrender our need to understand everything.

We want answers.

We want timelines.

We want explanations.

We want to know how God will do it and when He will do it.

But faith doesn't require complete understanding.

Faith requires trust.

Proverbs 3:5 doesn't say, “Trust in the Lord when everything makes sense.”

It says:

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

There will be moments when God's instructions don't make sense to you.

Trust Him anyway.

God Sees What You Cannot See

You may only see the closed door.

God may see the opportunity behind it.

You may see the delay.

God may see the preparation.

You may see the disappointment.

God may see the redirection.

You may see the ending.

God may be preparing a new beginning.

Your limited vision does not limit God's ability.

He sees the beginning, the middle, and the end.

What Should You Do When You Don't Know What to Do?

1. Pray

Don't make fear-driven decisions. Take your concerns to God.

2. Seek His Word

God's Word gives direction, wisdom, and encouragement when we feel uncertain.

3. Listen for His guidance

Give the Holy Spirit room to lead you rather than rushing ahead.

4. Take the next step

You may not know the next ten steps, but perhaps God has already shown you the next one.

Take it.

5. Trust God's timing

Don't force something simply because you're tired of waiting.

If God has promised it, He knows how to bring it to pass.

You Don't Need to See Everything

Perhaps you're standing at a crossroads today.

Maybe you're wondering what the future holds.

Maybe you're asking God for direction.

I want to encourage you:

You don't have to see the whole way.

You only need to trust the One who can.

God has never been surprised by your circumstances. He already knows what lies ahead.

So breathe.

Pray.

Trust.

Take the next step.

And leave the rest in God's hands.

Final Encouragement

Your journey may not look the way you imagined it would.

But that doesn't mean God isn't leading you.

Sometimes the road is unclear because God wants us to walk by faith rather than by sight.

Don't allow uncertainty to make you doubt God's faithfulness.

He knows the way.

He knows where He is taking you.

He knows what you need.

He knows the right timing.

And He knows how your story ends.

So when you can't see the way, trust the One who can.

Prayer

My Dear Loving Heavenly Father,

There are times when I don't understand what You are doing, and I cannot see what lies ahead. But today, I choose to trust You.

Help me not to lean on my own understanding. Give me wisdom to know the next step and courage to take it.

When I feel afraid, remind me that You are with me. When I feel confused, give me direction. When I become impatient, help me trust Your timing.

Lord, order my steps and guide my decisions. Close every door that is not from You and open the doors You have prepared for me.

I surrender my plans, my future, my worries, and my unanswered questions into Your hands.

I may not see the way, but I trust the One who can.

God is not asking you to understand everything. He is asking you to trust Him.
